Morocco succeeded in counter-terrorism at home and abroad in 2023

In a world shattered, fractured, and bereaved by the depths of mostly asymmetrical armed conflicts, the Kingdom of Morocco is the only IR actor on the continent and in the world to arm itself with security, legal, and operational mechanisms capable of containing, neutralizing, and containing the terrorist threat.

Indeed, from the Moroccan Sahara buffer zone, where Polisario terrorist operations target civilians, to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and hostage-taking in Mali, Africa remains a continent profoundly defined by the spread of terrorism.

Having said that, the Kingdom of Morocco has responded to terrorism with effective intelligence agencies capable of discovering any terrorist leader and rescuing several captives, demonstrating exceptional effectiveness in freeing hostages and maintaining its territorial integrity.

The release of 63-year-old German Jörg Lange, a member of a Berlin-based humanitarian organization, who was being held captive by a jihadist group in Mali, in December 2022.
