Fans from all walks of life—those from Nairobi, Nakuru,Naivasha, Eldoret, and other parts of Kenya were treated to an exhilarating Easter holiday within Naivasha and its environs as they cheered and got a rare glimpse of WRC cars.
The WRC safari rally, which was the third round of the 2024 season, was reverting to its traditional Easter weekend for the first time after 26 years.
Fans who camped along the rally stages and spectator stages such as Soysambu, Elementsaita,Loldia,Lake Naivasha, and Hells Gate had a memorable Easter treat, which also boosted traders who were selling merchandise to the crowds.
However, as the saying goes, too much of anything is poisonous. Some fans who were drunk as they watched the cars risked their lives while taking photos of the rally cars, which at times veered off course and missed hitting them by a whisker.
Some of whom we spoke to were happy for the rally returning to Easter weekend and Monday still being a public holiday; they had no hurry to go back home on Sunday evening.
The rally, which was the fourth edition since the Kenyan edition was restored to the WRC calendar, was full of challenges for drivers, who at times complained of some fans barricading parts of the course with big stones, which gave them rough time or even spoiling their cars.
I also came across a group of Ugandan fans who travelled all the way from Kampala to Kasarani then to Naivasha just to quench their fantasy for rally cars despite having only 1 driver, Jasper Mangat.
From the streets of Naivasha town to spectator stages the Ugandans were all over enjoying the rally moment from making noise to discussing Luganda language.
