Military veterans under the umbrella of Kenya Veterans for Peace (KVP) have embarked on projects to boost peace in the country.
Some of the initiatives geared towards ending perennial conflicts between pastoralist communities include sinking boreholes and provision of water.
The group revealed this during a visit to veterans, widows and widowers of former military officers in Githurai Nairobi where they gifted them with assorted foodstuffs and non-food items.
Speaking during the distribution exercise at a church in Nairobi’s Githurai 45, the group led by Executive Director Nelson Sechere said their visit to the soldiers many of whom retired more than 25 years ago was part of social corporate responsibility.
The beneficiaries who retired from the Kenya Defence Forces in the 1990s and early 2,000 called for more inclusion in nation-building.
The retired soldiers have offered to mediate the stalemate between striking medics and the government.
They said they have previously mediated numerous peace efforts making them best suited to end the impasse and alleviate the suffering of Kenyans, especially women, children and the aged.
