Athletics Kenya has selected 24 athletes to represent the country at the 6th World Athletics Relays set for Nassau, Bahamas between 4th and 5th next month.
The team was selected on Saturday after the conclusion of the national trials.
Kenya will participate in the 4x 400m men and women and 4x100m men but won’t send a team in the 4x100m women after they failed to meet qualifying time.
The team was selected on Saturday at Nyayo stadium amidst a heavy downpour which affected the performance of many athletes.
Reigning World 800M champion Mary Moraa sprinted the one-lap race in 50.27 secs, followed by Mercy Chebet, who clocked 53.38 seconds, while Jackline Nanjala came in 3rd with a time of 54.07.
Zablon Ekwam was the fastest in the men’s 400m with a time of 44.19, ahead of Wiseman Were and David Sayanek,who clocked 45.96 and 46.10 in the 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively.
Team Kenya will be out to meet Olympic qualifying times in Bahamas as its currently ranked 27th in the men’s 4x100m, 15th in the men’s 4x400m, and 20th in the mixed relay, with the women’s 4x400m at position 25th.
Only the top 14 teams in each event will qualify for the 32nd Olympic Games in Paris, France, between July 26th and August 11th this year.
