Nakuru High School will host this year’s Primary and Secondary special schools sports national event from Sunday, 7th to 11 April.
The opening ceremony will be preceded by a procession in the streets of Nakuru town on Sunday morning to curtain raise the important event that will lead to eventual recognition and awards for the winners.
The Director for Field Coordination and Co-curricular Activities Mr. Nelson Sifuna asked sports fans and the general public to show up in large numbers to watch special needs learners showcase their sporting prowess.
He said the sporting activities will include among others rugby under 15s, Athletics, Basketball, Hockey, Handball, Cross Country and swimming.
The sporting event will attract learners with various impairments such as physical and mental impairments, visual and hearing and those living with autism.
Mr Nelson Sifuna said special sports have grown over the years winning recognition by the general public.
“This year’s First term National Special School’s Sports competition will be held in Nakuru High School starting Saturday, April 6, 2024 with a clinic for referees to offer A refresher course on rules and regulations governing sports in Kenya,” Mr Sifuna said.
The special school’s sports will be held concurrently with regular sports to take place in different regions of the country.
Regular sports for primary schools will be held in Nyeri County, secondary sports in Machakos County, while Embu will host Drama and Film Festivals during the same period.
