The DCI Homicide detectives have released fresh details on Rita Waeni’s murderer who is still at large over three months after the heinous act that shocked the nation.
In an appeal for information to the public, the police are saying they’re at advanced stages of their investigations.
“Elaborate forensic analyses have so far been done by the investigating team, capturing the deceased’s last moments and linking probable suspects to her murder. Further, detailed statements by persons of interest have been recorded and more data sourced from digital platforms to ensure that all leads to Rita’s killer(s) are utilized.” Reads the DCI report.
The DCI who’re now appealing for anyone with information that could help nab the killer who remains in the lose say that’s what is really needed as of now, “the prime suspect in the murder, a man only captured by CCTV cameras walking Rita to her scene of death remains in the holes, and the DCI Homicide team is sparing no resource in his pursuit.”
“In its endeavour to expedite the delivery of justice to the young soul and provide closure to the family, the Homicide Directorate calls upon anyone who can identify the man whose images (though blurry) appear on this post, to come forward and share information that may assist in his arrest.” Says the DCI.
The DCI have also released a CCTV footage showing the killer walking with Rita to the room where he eventually murdered her.

Detectives have gone father to reveal more details about the unknown killer whom they believe is a professional hitman given his calculated movements to evade detection.
Investigations have revealed how the killer carefully planned his moves and preyed on Rita through social media.
“He first initiated communication with the late Waeni on October 2, 2023 through an Instagram account in the names of Carlton Maina (pseudo), a name that was later changed several times and finally pulled down immediately after the heinous murder.” Reads the report seen by Kenya Insights.
The detectives have also been able to trail his movements in the period of the murder within Nairobi.
“The suspect is believed to have visited several hotels in Nairobi West in October 2023 and the Green House Airbnb located in Roysambu along TRM Drive on Nov 7 and Nov 11, 2023. He is also believed to have criminal mind evidenced by his way of evading CCTV cameras. He is fluent in Swahili and English, and has knowledge of Nairobi and its environs.” The police said.
Before her tragic death, Rita Waeni, 20, a third-year student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology was staying with her aunt at Syokimau in Nairobi, the home she left at 3pm on January 13, 2024, never to return alive.
Lucky escape
Separately, a lady has come out to reveal how she was lucky to have escaped the wrath of the same killer whom she has positively identified from circulated photos.
Appearing on X, the lady claims she met the suspected murderer outside St Paul’s University.
He tried to lure her but she noticed he had so many red flags.
“I met him outside St Pauls University and there were very many red flags. He was so nice and I doubted him. I just told him I fear Nigerians. I thought he wanted to con me didn’t know he’s a killer,’’ the source revealed.
He reportedly had a Nigerian accent and hung around the University for three days.
“ The accent was of a Nigerian. I asked for his FB name since he used to come around the school akasema ako na account mingi. I really wanted to know more about him.
“He hung around for 3 days and had no company and since then, I have never seen him again.
“The last day he said I seem to be a very mean girl,’’ the source added.
He also refused to give her his phone number and social media accounts.
He claimed he doesn’t have a phone and only uses a laptop.
“He also refused to give me his number. Had no phone and said he uses his laptop that’s why I asked for his FB name or even Twitter still said he has many accounts.
“I gave him my names and he never texted me.
“I was very inquisitive and he was not comfortable with my questions,’’ the source further revealed.
When she inquired about his roots, the cheeky man told her that he had been living with his uncle at Ilorin in Nigeria but claimed to be Ghanaian.
“I asked him how he got into the country akasema he has a God-father here.
“He said he is also a student. Asked about his house akaniambia he lives with a friend.
“I sensed lots of red flags in him,’’ the source further said.
“He also told her that he knows some good rooms in Kasarani where they can meet.
