The national women’s rugby team,Lionesses, have been pooled in group A of the forthcoming Women’s World Rugby Sevens Olympics Repechage scheduled June 21st-23rd in Monaco.
Kenya will face Argentina, Papua New Guinea and Manu Samoa.
Kenya’s East Africa counterparts Uganda’s Lady Cranes are in Pool B alongside Hong Kong China, Paraguay and Jamaica.
China, Poland, Czech Republic and Mexico are in Pool C .
The winner of the tournament will automatically qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Kenya missed out on the automatic qualification for the Olympic Games after falling to South Africa in the final of the continental qualifiers.
Kenya is also in contention for a place in next season’s Rugby Sevens World Rugby Seven’s circuit and is currently placed 5th in the standings ahead of the final qualifying challenger round in Poland scheduled 18-19th May.
In Poland Kenya will face the hosts,Belgium and Mexico.
Top four placed women’s teams will secure spots in the new promotion and relegation play-off competition at the World Rugby Seven’s season finale in Madrid on 31 May – 2 June.
