The sixth round of Rallycross got a boost after betting firm Betika was unveiled as title sponsors for the event scheduled April 27th at Kasarani’s Super Special Stage track.
The RX Rallycross is a brainchild of multiple-time Kenyan rally champion Carl ‘Flash’ Tundo and his long-time navigator Tim Jessop .
Rallycross is Kenya’s newest premier motorsport event, and a part of the Kenya Motorsport Federation (KMSF) Calendar.
Rallycross is a combination of rallying and circuit racing. It features short, sharp, head-to-head races on mixed surfaces of both unpaved, loose surface roads, and tarmac.
Up to five cars at a time will race wheel-to-wheel on a circuit, similar to the Super Spectator Stage at the WRC Safari Rally, but with much closer racing. The event runs in heats in each race over a maximum of 5 laps with the aim of scoring the most points during the heats to qualify for the semifinal.
The event is expected to feature six confirmed teams drawn from hosts Kenya,Uganda and Zambia.
Each team is made up of a former or reigning champion in Motorsport in their respective countries, a veteran driver aged 50 years and above.
The event will feature women and junior classes as well.
There are a total of three Rallycross events scheduled this season.
Carl ‘Flash’ Tundo, gave an update on the entries for the event.
“We are excited for some Rallycross action, featuring previous participants like the evergreen Ian Duncan, Baldev Chager, Azad Anwar, and myself. Youngsters Hamza Anwar and Joseph Gacheche will fight it out who is the fastest junior this season. In the ladies’ category, we expect Tash Tundo, Jeniffer Malik and other amazing female drivers to deliver a proper show.”
Betika Managing director Mutua Mutava gave an assurance of the betting firms commitment to support sports in the country.
,“This time, Rallycross is bringing together high-adrenalin, wheel-to-wheel racing and the Amapiano tour, which will be a great spectacle for the fans. Do not miss out. It will be a spectacle like no other.”
