The government has called on the collaborative efforts between public and private firms in the country to accelerate development of the digital sector.
Speaking at the Digital Transformation in East Africa Conference, Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and Digital Economy, Eliud Owalo said it is imperative to collaborate with the private sector so as to make an impact on policies, laws and regulations of digital infrastructure.
“As a government, we are cognizant of the impact that digitization has on social development, and we are keen on leveraging on technology for e-commerce. Anchored on our 2022-2032 Digital Master plan, we are keen on digital public infrastructure, skilling, innovation and entrepreneurship,” said Owalo.
“Digitization has enabled us to reduce our timeline of laying over 100,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable for last-mile internet connectivity from 5 years to 2 years and increase our daily digital revenue from Ksh 60 million to Ksh1 billion,” he added.
Aga Khan University President and Vice Chancellor Sulaiman Shahabuddin mentioned that digital transformation is important in empowering people, companies and organizations.
“Effectively integrating tech into the day-to-day life of an institution takes time and resources. The anchor of this conference stems from the need to see the promise of technology fulfilled here in Kenya and in the region.”
The two-day conference aims to address crucial digital transformation topics such as digital governance, generative AI in healthcare and education, cyber security, data privacy and climate and sustainability.
