Former President William Ruto’s senior economic advisor Moses Kuria sensationally claimed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was behind the attack on Uhuru Kenyatta’s farm in Ruiru in 2023.
He was responding to claims earlier made by Gachagua during an interview in Boston, United States.
Gachagua, in the interview, alleged that Kuria and DP Kithure Kindiki paid goons – through former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga – to cause chaos during the recent spate of Gen Z-led anti-government protests.
According to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader, the two Kenya Kwanza leaders are being used by President Ruto to cause disunity in the Central Kenya region, in a bid to presumably diminish his rising influence.
“I’m not insulting anyone but those people it seems that they gave their minds to Ruto. The recent violence was organised by Soprano (Kindiki) and Moses Kuria, the one who claimed he had resigned,” said Gachagua.
“If you saw the photo they took with him (Njenga) holding hands and laughing because they had planned all this. There’s no job that he (Kuria) resigned from, he had been assigned to disrupt and separate the mountain. These people are being used Ruto to destroy their own people.”
The issue in the raid on Uhuru’s farm has never been addressed by even president Ruto despite his close allies denying he was involved.
As a president, many expected him to take action and address it to avoid speculations.
Kuria, in a response posted on the X platform, did not deny the allegations, stating matter of factly that he is “guilt as charged,” adding that he learnt the political chess move from Gachagua himself.
According to Kuria, he personally witnessed Gachagua paying Njenga and his people to raid retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Northlands farm in 2023, during the then opposition Azimio-led anti-government protests.#
“Rigathi Gachagua has accused me during his tour of the US of funding and supporting Maina Njenga. I am guilty as charged. I learnt from the best. I was in the room when Rigathi paid the same people money to steal Uhuru Kenyatta’s goats from Northlands,” wrote Kuria.
Gachagua also alleged that Kindiki received Sh60 million from President William Ruto to bankroll a disruptive campaign aimed at discrediting him and his political allies in the Mt. Kenya region.
“They paid goons to cause mayhem and frame us for it so that the public would turn against us. But Kenyans are not blind; they can see through the deception,” Gachagua claimed.
He further accused Kindiki, whom he cheekily referred to as ‘Soprano’, of using State funds under the guise of empowerment to mount early campaigns for the 2027 elections.
He argued that such funds should be allocated to more urgent sectors like health and education.
“The money he’s flying around with in helicopters could fix hospitals and schools. Instead, it’s being thrown around in the name of empowerment. But young people are paying attention,” he said
Gachagua also outlined his vision for the first 100 days in office should he be elected president, promising to end extrajudicial killings, restore institutional independence, and revamp essential public services.
“My first priority would be to end abductions and stop extrajudicial killings and restore the rule of law. The second thing would be to allow institutions such as Parliament to have autonomy to enable it to make effective decisions,” he said.
He also accused the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula of openly siding with the Executive.
“A Speaker should be neutral, but what we have now is someone who campaigns for the president, attends harambees, and issues political threats. That’s not the role of a neutral parliamentary head,” he said.
According to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), at least 38 people were killed and over 130 were injured during the Saba Saba protests. The demonstrations also left behind a trail of destruction, with businesses looted and millions of shillings lost.
