In celebration of International Artificial Intelligence Appreciation Day, This is Digital, a leading organization focused on closing Africa’s AI literacy gap, hosted an exclusive AI Appreciation Breakfast on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at The Social House in Nairobi.
The event, themed “The Age of AI: A Reality Check”, brought together thought leaders, policymakers, innovators, and professionals to reflect on the continent’s AI journey and its impact on everyday life.
The intimate gathering featured a powerful lineup of speakers and panelists across sectors, offering insights into how AI is already reshaping industries and communities across Africa. Keynote speaker Moses Kemibaro, Founder and CEO of Dotsavvy, set the tone for the morning with a reflection on Kenya’s digital transformation journey and the urgency of AI readiness.
Distinguished guests included Hon. Ndindi Nyoro, MP for Kiharu Constituency, Roseline Njogu, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, and Susan Makau from the International School of Advertising. The event also featured a panel discussion exploring the intersection of AI with various industries:
- Eugene Mbugua, Founder of D&R Studios – AI in Entertainment
- Caroline Kendi, Founder of CK Marketing – AI in Marketing
- Dr. Catherine Gathu, Head of Family Medicine, Aga Khan University – AI in Medicine

Following the event, This is Digital announced the launch of its flagship AI Literacy Program, set to kick off on August 5, 2025. The program is designed to empower professionals, entrepreneurs, students, and educators with practical, ethical, and locally relevant AI knowledge. The curriculum includes:
- Online AI Bootcamps: Every Tuesday in August (5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th), from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- In-Person AI Bootcamp: August 27–29, 2025
- Monthly Cohorts: Ongoing, both online and in-person
According to the 2024 Oxford Insights AI Readiness Index, Kenya ranks sixth in Africa—highlighting the country’s strong foundation for AI adoption. The AI Literacy Program seeks to build on this momentum by fostering digital fluency and enabling African communities to actively shape the continent’s AI-driven future.
